A former research executive, Helen’s professional career path took on a new direction after her son was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of four and later with Asperger’s Syndrome. Helen realised that parenting a child with these conditions could be challenging and often isolating.
It was the challenges and impact of parenting a child with additional needs, together with not knowing how and where to access the right support, that motivated Helen to follow a completely new career path; one in which she could learn more about these hidden and complex conditions.
Helen learnt that by increasing her knowledge, adapting her approach to parenting and by changing her own behaviour, the outcomes she achieved were very different. It was this personal transformation that inspired her work with families and young people.
With over fifteen years experience as a Specialist Coach and Trainer, Helen has extensive experience of working closely with families, young people and children living with these conditions. She has coached young people in a variety of main stream and specialist educational settings and has worked in a consultancy and training capacity alongside professionals from Education, Health and Social Care.
She is truly passionate about both raising awareness of ADHD and Autism and in helping families to make positive life changes to reach their goals. Helen was instrumental in the design, development and implementation of the successful Breaking Down Barriers course.
Helen is a qualified Specialist ADHD/ASC Behavioural Coach, 1-2-3 Magic Practitioner, Training Consultant, NLP Practitioner, Parent Group Facilitator, ‘WhyTry’™ Practitioner and Early Years’ Practitioner.
It was Helen’s personal experiences and desire to make a difference to the lives of young people that inspired her and colleague Debbie, to start the first Outside-iN Support Group in Shefford. Its purpose was to support parents of children with a diagnosis, who were experiencing similar difficulties with their children.
Now, almost seven years on, Outside-iN’s rapid development and continual growth has been both exciting and rewarding. Helen, is as committed as ever to personal growth and development, understanding that there is still an awful lot to learn and share. She has recently achieved the Institute of Leadership and Management Level 4 and 5 business management qualifications.
Proud of the many achievements that Outside-iN has accomplished, Helen feels privileged to have worked with such a dedicated and passionate team of professionals, all of whom share the vision of making a difference to the lives of families, children and young people with ADHD and Autism.
